Restoration of land and unity of people’ CeremonyOn 6 December 2008, the ‘Restoration of land and unity of people’ Ceremony, (‘/Asakai !Huba i Khoena /Gui/gui’) was held on the banks of the Black River, in the area of great cultural and historical value. The location was decided on due to the fact that this was the area where the kraal of Gogosoa was located and also where he eventually came to rest.
The event was attended by dignitaries in the Western Cape including the Cocho Khoe Chieftainship, under leadership of Chief Basil Coetzee, Tamen Ui Nuseb representing the |Khowese Traditional Authority, PANSALB member Mr. Pedro Dausab, heritage expert and consultant, Ron Martin, along with the Western Cape Dignitaries that attended the 103rd |Khowese Annual Heroes Festival in Namibia.
On this auspices occasion stones from the Ancestral Graves along the banks of the Fish River in Gibeon, Namibia were ceremonially joined with the sand from the Liesbeeck River, as symbol of the unification of the land and its people.
Amidst all the ceremonial proceedings, including the opening prayer in Namagowab by Pedro Dausab, the Namastap dans performed by a Khoe Youth Group, keynote address by Chief Basil Coetzee and other speakers, one had an immense sense of history taking place right in front of one’s eyes. This event was also by no means just a once-off-affair, but on the contrary besides for it being set out as a annual event that will find its placing on Cape Town’s Cultural Calendar, the organizers plan to have another event on a more grandeur scale, within the first quarter of the new year.
